Lowes.com How-To Tip: Creating a Color Scheme
Take a look in your closet. Is there a theme in your wardrobe colors? As a rule, the colors one prefers
for clothing may translate to room decoration. Use something from your existing room as a beginning focal
point to create a complementing or contrasting color scheme. For example, if you have a patterned area
rug or fabric on upholstery or drapery, choose two or three colors from that palette as a basis for your
color scheme. If your carpet is a solid blue, make the scheme more interesting by choosing a hue based
on a color scheme other than monochromatic. For a lively scheme, stay close in color value. For a more
subdued scheme, choose a color lighter in value.
